The Philippines To Adopt Smart Farming

The DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) and the University of Rizal System (URS) have virtually signed a document in order to perform field testing of the Gul.ai System prototype.

FREMONT, CA: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to perform field testing of the Gul.ai System prototype has been signed virtually by the DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) and the University of Rizal System (URS). The initiative, titled Gul.ai: AI- and IoT-Assisted Small-scale Plant-growing System, intends to educate the country's youth about agriculture. The partnership with URS should improve the creation and enhancement of value-added features in the Gul.ai System significantly. The researchers from URS's real-world experience, in particular, is likely to improve the likelihood of the evolving project's iterative development succeeding.

The Gul.AI Project is a futuristic government programme aiming at boosting the agricultural nation with 30 million hectares of land. The project, which is led by DOST-ASTI, merges the concepts of information and communication technology (ICT) and agriculture, particularly in agricultural research. It makes use of the most innovative ICT technology available today: Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things known as AIoT. The Gul.ai Project Development Team will deliver the Gul.ai system prototype to URS’ Tanay Campus under the MoA between the DOST-ASTI and the URS, giving the country a head start in smart farming.

Although AIoT is a new technology, the combination of AI with IoT is innovative technology as IoT assists in the significant capture of a massive amount of data from many sources. However, statistics alone will not be sufficient, it has to be further processed.
